Saint David Parish Pilgrimage to France – Day 8: Lourdes

Our final full day in Lourdes was truly a day of grace, prayer, and reflection as we continued to walk in the footsteps of St. Bernadette.

The day began with visits to the Bernadette Museum and the humble birthplace and family home where St. Bernadette lived. Standing in these simple places helped us appreciate the extraordinary way God works through ordinary people. Bernadette was a poor and unassuming young girl, yet the Blessed Mother chose her to deliver a message that continues to touch millions of hearts around the world.

Throughout the morning, we reflected on the apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette and the invitation Mary gave to prayer, conversion, penance, and trust in her Son. We then gathered to celebrate Holy Mass in the Chapel of St. Patrick, offering our prayers and intentions at this holy place where heaven touched earth.

After lunch, many pilgrims participated in the Lourdes Water Gesture, a prayerful experience inspired by Our Lady’s request to St. Bernadette to drink from and wash in the spring that miraculously flowed from the Grotto. While the traditional baths remain available to pilgrims, the Water Gesture offers another opportunity to encounter the message and healing grace of Lourdes through prayer and reflection with the blessed water from the spring.

The afternoon was spent exploring the three magnificent basilicas that rise above the Grotto, each built as a witness to the faith of the millions who have made pilgrimage to Lourdes over the years. We also participated in the 5:00 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration, spending time in the presence of Our Lord and entrusting to Him all the intentions we had carried with us throughout this pilgrimage.

This evening, we gathered for our closing dinner and shared the graces we had received during these sacred days together. The stories were powerful and deeply moving. Some spoke of healing, others of renewed faith, and many of a deeper relationship with Our Blessed Mother and her Son. As our pilgrimage comes to an end, we leave Lourdes with grateful hearts, knowing that while our journey through France is ending, the spiritual fruits of this pilgrimage are only beginning.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

St. Bernadette, pray for us.
