Saint David Parish Pilgrimage – Day 5: Montmartre & the Heart of Paris
Today our pilgrims spent the day in one of the most charming and historic corners of Paris—Montmartre, the picturesque hilltop village that has inspired artists, saints, and travelers for centuries. With its winding cobblestone streets, quaint cafés, and stunning views, Montmartre feels more like a small village than a bustling part of one of the world’s largest cities.
Towering above the neighborhood is the magnificent Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Sacré-Cœur), whose brilliant white domes crown the highest point in Paris. From its steps, we were treated to breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the City of Light. Yet the true treasure of this holy place is found within its walls. Since 1885, Eucharistic Adoration has been offered continuously at Sacré-Cœur, making it one of the longest-running perpetual adoration sites in the world. Our pilgrims had ample time for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, personal reflection, and exploration of this sacred shrine.
We were privileged to celebrate Holy Mass in the Crypt Church of the Basilica, and at the conclusion of Mass we consecrated ourselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, entrusting our families, our parish, and our personal intentions to His loving and merciful Heart.
Later in the day, we journeyed to the world-famous Louvre Museum, home to some of humanity’s greatest artistic treasures. From masterpieces of classical antiquity to works of the Renaissance, the Louvre provided a fitting reminder that beauty has the power to lift the human spirit toward the divine.
As our pilgrimage continues, we remain grateful for these opportunities to encounter Christ through prayer, history, art, and the rich spiritual heritage of France.
